One of the grammatical snafus that is most nails-on-chalkboard for me is capitalizing words just because They Are Important Words. Sometimes these are admittedly tricky to correct when it's a question of sometimes yes, sometimes no.
My mom is a wonderful cook.
versus
A wonderful cook, Mom makes the best goulash and gingerbread.
When we can substitute someone's actual name, as in the second sentence, Mom takes the capital. When substituting the name would make the sentence ridiculous, as in the first example, it doesn't.
Seasons are similar. They only properly earn a capital letter when when they substitute for a name, i.e. when they are poetically personified.
The only sure things in life are death, taxes, and spring allergies.
versus
Ah, Spring, when the flowers bloom and the pollen chokes my airways.
